15 July 1902 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 15th [July 1902]. Verona came & helped to arrange the books & drawings for the Sale of drawings wh I am having in aid of the new Venice Seaman’s hospital & Connie came to arrange the drawings—number & price them which was all completed by lunch time. I had the bed taken down from my room opposite the drawing room & one screen erected there & the books put out on tables. About 50 people came in in the course of the afternoon & we counted up in the evening we found we had made about £108 which was very satisfactory. Watts, Fildes, Poynter, Hughes, Mellon, Fisher, all gave me drawings & they sold well. I bought the Watts drawing representing “Angel removing the Curse of Cain” for my own collection & gave £25 for it. I was tired out by night– Dined at home & went early to bed.
