24 July 1902 — Garry Hill, Bagenalstown, County Carlow
Thursday. 24th [July 1902]. We had a splendid crossing & reached Garry Hill abt 12 o’cl. I took no maid with me. We found Gwenyll & her governess Fraulein von Müller there they having been there already a fortnight. We were quite without servants except Ellen the caretaker of the house who cooked & did everything for us. We waited on ourselves at table & Blanche had brought a large hamper of provisions which kept us going with a few simple things cooked by Ellen. Michael the Agent also looked after us. Blanche was particularly interested in the work class going on in the stable house with a govt instructress to teach the peasants embroidery. We spent much of our time helping her, making designs &c. Went to the schools—paid visits in a few cottages & to Mr & Mrs Beresford.
