1 January 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 1st [January 1903]. Nela & I went to the service at 10.30 which was merely the Communion service. Marchesa Cassis was there & sat with us. There was a fairly large congregation. After lunch we went to pay a visit to the Bompards & found Mme B. a great deal recovered & her broken arm on the mend. She was even upstairs in her husband’s studio. We went on to see Lady Mayo & she was at home in the miserable little house her son Mr Algy Bourke has taken near S. Giov. Nuova a very poor neighbourhood. After dinner we went to an evening party at Css Canevaros wh was not a very amusing affair. It being a theatre night few people came & those who did left early to go to the Opera–
