12 January 1903 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 12th [January 1903]. Up rather late– Saw Monty in the morning who was very pleasant & we did not allude to his having given me notice that he intended to leave this house at Christmas & had finally decided to stay on– Connie came to lunch rather late as we lunched at 1 as I wanted to go out at 2 to try my newly hired electric brougham for wh I am to pay 14 guineas a week or £170 for 3 months. We went along a good pace to the City where Nellie had business & did it in a very short time. At ¼ to 4 I went to the R. Academy & there met Thoby Prinsep who took me to the lecture room to hear his father give an art lecture to the students. Lady Clarke (Stanley T.) was also there & we sat together. The matter of the lecture was good but the delivery indifferent– It was more on Literature than Art & was interesting– After the lecture Mr Prinsep & the boys came to tea with me at Savile Row. Lady Borwick also came to ask me to help her about being presented at Court. I offered to do so for her which pleased her.
