16 January 1903 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. [16th January 1903]. Wrote letters &c in morning. Lunched at 1. Went out with Nellie at 2 in the electric brougham—bought some beads for making chains– Called for Elaine & took her for a drive, Nellie left us & returned to her shop. I took Elaine to the A & N Stores & came home to tea– At the stores saw 2 2nd hand books with mention of Henry in them so bought them viz. Sir Henry Rawlinson’s memoirs & Diary of Denison the Speaker– Connie came to dine with us & spent the evening & I sent her home in my carriage. She was in a calm state of mind, rare in her, & read aloud to me most of the evening. Nellie went off to the play with C. Wyld.
