22 January 1903 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 22nd [January 1903]. After a bad night was slack & idle all the morng. Recovered my temper & decided to leave things as they are. Found that Monty is ill in bed with feverish cold & that he has a nurse to sit up with him at night Connie came to lunch & was very restless. Sophy went out in the electric brougham all the afternoon. Nellie & I started walking to shop but I found it too late to proceed with her so I left her & walked back to the R. Academy to attend Mr Prinsep’s last lecture at 4. On going in met Sir R. O’Conor H.M. Ambassador at Constantinople & had a chat with him. He tells me the Sultan is doing wonderfully well considering his various infirmities—but that the outlook in Turkey is black. Sat next to Mr Fildes at the lecture wh was good & the last Val P. will give as he has resigned the Professorship. Came home & brought Val P. to tea with me– Sophy & Nellie both dined out so I was alone at dinner.
