16 March 1903 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Monday. 16th [March 1903]. Theo better this morning but Merthyr & I breakfasted alone as Aura was out early. She is brought up to be very independent of visitors & not to trouble much for them. I left Inwood at 11.15 & drove to Templecombe & took the 11.50 train to London. The electric brougham met me & I went home & got a cup of coffee & hurried out again after consulting with Adeline Dss of Bedford thro’ the telephone as to what house to try & get for the concert for the Venice hospital. I left a note on Lord Brassey to ask if he would lend his house. Went to see the Rates who promise to help & home early. Finished my watercolour copy of Moretti’s angels—which I am making for my sale of drawings. Had tea & then a visit from Lady & Miss Borwick who are anxious to know the last arrangements abt going to Court on 20 when I am presenting Lady B & she presents her daughter. Connie & Nela Du Cane dined with me & afterwards Connie wrote the invitations for my sale for me & when I got to bed I made the list of them.
