7 July 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 7th [July 1903]. The world is in a state of excitement at the illness of the Pope. The poor old man is 94 & has pleurisy & is not likely to live thro’ the day. There was a thunderstorm & much rain going on all day & it was almost cold today. I went out on foot for an hour after tea, & went to dine with the Edens quite alone. Carry & I had intended going together to the Exhibition to hear the band but the weather would not permit of it. Home at 10.
