27 July 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 27th [July 1903]. I went off at 9 in sandolo to fetch Mr Harston & together we went to Dr Tommasini’s. He lives in the prison & just at the end of our Fondamenta. He is a young good looking man. As it was raining he came in to my gondola & I explained matters there to him & then took him to our hospital & showed him over it. He was pleased with it & said he would go at once to the Prefettura & came at 2 & tell me the result. I walked home. After lunch the Dr came—said we must petition for the hospital on carta bollata & undertook to do this & to carry out other small arrangements so that I may get the license as soon as possible. Maria Cozzi came to see me & then Genl de Horsey. The poor old man brought me two letters to ask me to read them to him. He is too blind himself & has a secy who cannot read English.
