28 July 1903 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 28th [July 1903]. Wrote letters. Miss Eaton went out shopping. Mr Marston brought 2 English lady artists to see my pictures both Bohemian girls he is trying to get round & keep his eye upon and he begged me to go down so I went downstairs & showed them the pictures myself & we became quite friendly. At 4 I had a visit from old Countess Morosini Venier, Countess Pisani’s great friend. A dear old lady very intelligent who used to paint flowers very prettily– Then came Mr Merrick & his daughter Mrs Gardener & her niece who have come over from America on purpose to see the Merricks. Then came Maria Cozzi & her sister Ersilia– When they were gone I went out in gondola with Miss Eaton to the Piazza & home for 7.30 dinner– She went out again after dinner. I stayed in– We sent off today a boat load of furniture to the hospital so that the matron’s rooms are ready– Miss Eaton is to be known as Sister Clara—which is suitable—the name here or Sister are supposed to have more authority.
