30 August 1903 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 30th [August 1903]. Nellie & I went to morning service at St James Piccadilly. Then I went to lunch with the Schaumberg Lippe at Browns Hotel. We dined in the restaurant the P. & Pss [illegible word] Blücher & Col. Winslow. The Prince is still very good looking but as silent as ever—but devoted to his wife. At 5 she came to my house & we went together in a hansom to the Coburg Hotel to see Lady Dudley whom we had known when she was a girl as Rachel Gurney & who is now Vice-reine of Ireland. She is very handsome, very smart & very fashionably dressed & made herself very pleasant. She spoke enthusiastically of the King’s late visit to Ireland & said it had been a huge success & a spontaneous one—that both the K. & Q. had shown the greatest tact. She confessed that Lord Dudley tho’ delighted with it all had never felt so happy as when the King & Q. had got home to England in safety & that all had gone off so smoothly– Then she tried to persuade Pss Victoria to dine with them tonight at the Carlton Hotel to meet P. Francis of Teck & Pss V. promised to do so or else to join them after dinner as she said it wd be boring to P. Adolf as he does not speak English. I then took her back to her hotel & deposited her there & went home myself.
