28 December 1903 — En route to Paris
Monday. 28th [December 1903]. At Dijon at 9.30 a restaurant car was put on to our car & we got breakfast– Arrived at Paris at 1.30 P.M. Nela changed into the Boulogne train which will get her to London at 10.45 tonight. The interpreter from Hotel Ritz met me & I drove there by 2 o’cl. Found the Adeline Dss of Bedford was there to welcome me, having arrived the day before. We have a comfortable little apartment an 5ieme. I have a small bedroom & a bathroom next it for 25 fcs a day & it is next the Dss little salon– I was tired & retired to lie down as my head began to ache; a sort of recurrence of last week’s rheumatism. Sophy de Franqueville came to see us & sat for nearly 2 hours talking—telling me all about her new life, wh seems really to be a great success tho’ she pretends it is not at moments. I was so unwell that I could only wish for quiet & sleep wh came at last.
