7 April 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 7th [April 1904]. The Prince took coffee in his room but the Pss came to 9 oclock breakfast with us in the dining room. At 11 oclock I took her out in the gondola & we went to the Piazza & spent some time in the jeweller’s shop Missiaglia where Pss Charlotte likes to go & finds pretty things for Christmas presents of which she lays in here a store & then we came home to lunch. Sr Malagola had offered to take Prince Bernard out sight seeing but he preferred to remain at home & write so we took him out with us in the afternoon and again went to the Piazza that he might see it without the fallen Campanile. Both he & the Princess declare that it is a pity to rebuild it—& that they prefer the view without it—a thing I cannot agree in. I am glad that the work of reconstruction has already begun.
