5 June 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 5th [June 1904]. I went to morning service & on my return found a note from Bss Reinelt asking me to go & see her. She wanted to tell me that the ArchDuchess Isabella who is now staying on the Lido would probably (on the Bss suggestion) give me an audience one of these days—& this she told me in order that I should not be mystified if there came an invitation! I went out in gondola after tea—to the Dss of Noci to call—& there met the Duca della Grazia who goes there every afternoon to smoke & gossip. Went on to the Eden’s garden & sat with them awhile. Having heard that there would be no service at the Sailor’s Inst: I offered myself to the Canevaros & dined with them—en famille—only an old Admiral there besides the family—D. & Dss—Maria Cozzi & Giorgio the Dss; brother & sister. In the evening several people came in to pay their visit– Count Nigra amongst them with whom I was glad to make acquaintance—but I had little talk with him as he was soon carried off to play cards. I came home as 10.30. Mr Montalba was also there & promised to come to me tomorrow morning to show me how to be treasurer to the Cos. Hospital.
