4 July 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 4th [July 1904]. Such an oppressive day that I could do nothing but sit quiet in the studio & embroider till tea time. Later the Curtis came in for a chat. A storm came up abt 8 but did not break here—still it cooled the air & relieved my head. Mr Harston came to dinner. He told me that Dr van Someren is getting himself into trouble by mixing in Italian politics with Austria– There was a grand serenade & we went out to meet it as far as the Rialto but it lightened so much & thundered in the distance that we thought it more prudent to return to the Belvedere & saw it pass from this house a little after 11–
