28 September 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 28th [September 1904]. Kate & I went out walking in the morng and after lunch I took her & Cecil for their last row in gondola as far as the Piazza– Gave them all an early tea & then accompanied them to the station and with great regret saw them depart by the 5.25 train for London– I walked afterwards to the sailor’s Inst: to see how things were going on—but a thunderstorm came up suddenly so I hurried home getting caught in heavy rain on the way. The house seems very quiet & still after the departure of the dear people. The 2 girls are so contented & easily pleased & Kitty so gentle & good & it so takes us back to our youth to be together. I spent a quiet evening and early to bed—but have just got a telegram from Count Seckendorff to say he will arrive to stay with me tomorrow evening.
