5 October 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 5th [October 1904]. Pasquale being no better decided to send him to the Cosmopolitan Hospital so he was taken there on a mattress at 2 o’cl. The Count & I walked to the Piazza calling in at some small antiquity shops on the way. I then found the gondola at St Moisé took the Count to the Curtis, there left him & went to tea at the Montalbas & on to the Hospital to enquire after things. Found Pasquale comfortably installed. Regina is also staying there with him. Mr & Mrs Curtis, Mr Sargent & Mrs Hunter came to dine. The latter a lovely & smart woman quite Titianesque in appearance– A grandmother I am told– Sargent has painted her 3 daughters on one canvass. She is fair & golden haired. Clara Montalba & her brother also dined with me– A pleasant little party.
