12 October 1904 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 12th [October 1904]. The weather still very uncertain & windy but improved as the day went on. I packed & arranged all so as to be able to start if a favorable report came by telegram of the weather at Trieste. Abt 4 it came that there was no wind & I decided to go & sent word to Mr Montalba who will accompany me. Lady Pirbright paid me a visit at 2 with her nephew Mr Philips– The old lady was beaming & kind as usual & happy at having her nephew in tow. Mr Harston called while I was having my tea at 5. I went out just before to tell Mlle Aspasie Kwekwitsch that I was going off to the country of her sister’s relations. At 6 Mr Montalba arrived & we went off to that station he, Baker & I left Venice by 6.30 train & got to Trieste at 11. Went to the Hotel de Ville. Met Signor Volpi also going to Montenegro by same route.
