15 August 1905 — Milton Court, nr. Dorking, Surrey
Tuesday. 15th [August 1905]. Breakfast in our rooms & then walked abt 11 in the garden with Mrs Rate– Her garden is more beautiful than ever– She has a genius for it. Her herbaceous borders are celebrated. After lunch we drove over to Fredley to call on Mrs Kay– Mr Rate accompanied us—but did not get out of the carriage & had tea given him there. He was in good spirits & enjoyed a little chaff rather in his own old way. Mrs Kay was pleased to see me– She is one of the few old friends Henry had who remain.
