29 August 1905 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 29th [August 1905]. Verona Brooke came to see me in morning. Went to lunch with the Wylds where I met a Capt. Lambton brother of Ralph L. whom I had met in Egypt—& a Capt. Rhind—Charlie’s cousin. I hired a coupé in the afternoon & went shopping with Nellie in search of garments, dust cloaks &c for wear in India. We returned to Savile Row quite exhausted at 5 glad of tea. Lady Younghusband came to see me—very excited about my going to India & gave me a lot of useful hints & asked me to go to tea tomorrow where Sir Frank will be at home & will give me further advise. At 7 I went to the Cork St Hotel where the Curtis’ stay, found them just arrived. They were very excited at hearing of my projected trip to India. They have been there 3 times & rave over the country. I went on to Seymour St & dined with Nellie. We were alone. I came home early.
