2 September 1905 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 2nd September [1905]. I had breakfast in bed & got up late. Ola came to lunch. I went over to tea with her at the Hospital. Mr Pen Browning came to see me. We had not met for a long time. He was friendly & pleasant. Soon after Marquis & Marquesa Cassis joined us– They are here for a few hours only. On arriving last night I found a telegram from Vere Ponsonby offering to pay me a visit today with his friend Lionel Rothschild. They were to come by motor from Cadenabbia. I telegraphed to them that I expected them—& sent the gondola for them at 7.45. They did not come so I dined alone & on a later telegram I sent the gondola to the station for them to meet the same 11.35 that I arrived by; but I did not wait up for them being tired.
