12 September 1905 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Tuesday. 12th [September 1905]. Tremendous scirocco which made me stupid all day. Mrs Chapman wife of the Consul Genl at Florence called abt tea time– Then I went out in gondola for a row. Called on Mr & Mrs Byard & sat some time with them in their little garden. Dined at 8—was driven to bed early by the mosquitos & the desire to escape from them under the mosquito net. They had bitten my back thro’ my thin dress & there was no other means of escape from that. I can defend myself in front! | |
