Monday. 2nd [October 1905]. Mr & Miss Allen came to lunch. He was Ruskin’s publisher—a nice old man. His daughter is very clever—& she is editing the new edition of Ruskin’s works. She has a fine face—is not young—fair & must have been good looking when quite young. I took Bee to the Curtis to tea where we met Paul Bourget—pleasant but not distingué. His wife whom I saw a day or two ago is far superior in appearance & speaks English perfectly. He speaks English but with some difficulty. The Brandolin dined with us & Malagola came in afterwards to join them–
