8 January 1906 — Gwalior
Monday. 8th January [1906]. Sir Clement took us for a drive thro’ the city & helped Nela to find subjects for photographed & also to buy small silver objects to take away as presents. He took us into the new market which had been opened recently by the P. of Wales. There we saw all the vegetables of country, money changers, with piles of small coin pice & even cowries, also stalls with all kinds of cheap small things such as beads, bangles, combs &c. We returned to lunch & then departed from the guest house accompanied to the station by kind Sir Clement & took the 1.30 train for Lucknow which we reached at 8 p.m. We found no gherry to be had at the station but an old servant from Henry Guest’s bungalow who at last found us one which conveyed us to Dilkusha. Henry G. was away at Calcutta & not expected till tomorrow. We found a good dinner & nice rooms prepared for us–
