9 January 1906 — Lucknow
Tuesday. 9th [January 1906]. I was pretty tired & rather cross so we only took a drive in the afternoon just round the place & through the Residency gardens to look about at. I resolutely declining to get out of the carriage to see anything. After tea Nela & I took a little walk along the road. Henry G. arrived from Calcutta in time for dinner. Just before he came we had a visit from Col. Mansel, brother of Jack, my nephew—who is quartered here & to whom I sent to tell him of our arrival. He kindly offered to go with us over the old Residency tomorrow.
