6 March 1906 — Grimsthorpe, Nuwara Eliya
Tuesday. 6th [March 1906]. I breakfasted at 8 & then went down to the station & Baker & I left by 8.40 train for Colombo as I am leaving for Venice on 8th in the P&O Moldavia– I left Nela in the care of Barbara until she sails for Brisbane on 19th on a visit to the Chelmsfords—& so our little Indian trip is over. I left Ajoo the bearer with her until she leaves the country when she will send him back to Jullundur– She will remain with Barbara till the day before she sails & Sir Allan Perry promises to see her on board the Oratora. The journey down to Kandy was lovely– I had the ladies carriage to myself. At Hatton the dining car was put on & Baker & I had lunch. At Peradeniya the junction for Kandy I saw Mr & Lady Anne Murray get into the train. Tea was brought to me at Polgahawela & so I was well fed on the journey & arrived at Colombo at 6 P.M. & went to the Galle Face Hotel. Sir Allan had ordered me a nice room & paid me a visit soon after my arrival. I dined alone at the same little table Nela & I had. Had coffee in the verandah with the Murrays & retired early to bed.
