22 March 1906 — En route to Venice
Thursday. 22nd [March 1906]. Reached Bologna at 10 a.m. & found the Venice train waiting. Dr Robertson of Venice (the Scotch minister) was on the platform on his way to Venice & saluted me. I got home by 2– Was met at the station by the good Profr Malagola & my servant Giuseppe—& re-entered my own house with a feeling of relief & satisfaction after my long wanderings. It was raining hard from early this morning & even snowing on the Euganean hills. Venice looked sad, dark & damp & it was bitterly cold– A sudden cold seems to have descended on the whole of Europe. I sat closer to the fire wrapped in my big fur coat. This day fortnight I was in tropical heat—& now am in Siberian cold! Baroness Reinelt telefoned to me her welcome.
