27 March 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 27th [March 1906]. Busy morning potting all the plants I had brought from Ceylon some given me by old Barbara some orchids from Amarajapura. Just as I was starting out in gondola in afternoon Carry Eden came so we went out together to Piazza & I came home to 5 o’cl tea– Went in the evening to the Fenice to the Concert of the Benedetto Marcello—a very full house. Concert of of Milan—too much noise for my taste. The “Eroica” of Beethoven—made to sound like Italian music. A piece of Elgars, our new English musician was given—very noisy & not to my taste. The “Idyll of Siegfried” by Wagner was a relief after it all—the first time I have found Wagner’s music restful—tho’ it is still to me monotonous. I went in the Reinelt’s box. Called on Montalbas.
