28 March 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 28th [March 1906]. Had a long interview with Mattei Trigomi, the architect & received all the last year’s account. Malagola looked in after lunch for a bit of gossip. Went out in afternoon & while walking in Merceria met Clara Montalba & thence took her home. At tea time I had a visit from La bella Contessa Morosini who was very pleasant & set aside for once all her beauty airs. She sat some time chatting with me. At lunch time I received a note from Iduna to say that Elisabeth de Martino had arrived here from Calcutta! when I had so lately seen her– She believed me to be in Japan & could hardly imagine that I should have arrived here before her– I asked her to come & dine with me & she came & was joined by the Belmondos in the eveng. She left Calcutta on 17th Feb. in a new Venetian steamer & had arrived yesterday. She was very pleased & so was I—& we had a pleasant eveng.
