26 April 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 26th [April 1906]. Mr Arbib telephoned to beg me to meet him at La Calcina so I went there on foot at 11– Dr Lord was there & we discussed plans for altering the hospital & adding to it. Then at 12 I hastened home as I had invited Baroness Reinelt, Mme Hilmy Pasha & the Belmondos to lunch. We were a cheery little party– After they left I hurried off to the Calcina to pick up Dr Lord & then we discussed the whole plan over again with the builder. When Dr L. left I had tea with Sister Chaffey & discussed business with her so I did not get home till 6. After dinner Malagola looked in & I persuaded him to accompany me to Milan tomorrow. He began by saying it wd be impossible & ended in agreeing to go. This will make all the difference to me– It will be so much more pleasant to have a companion & guide.
