4 May 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 4th [May 1906]. The fine weather continues but I felt cold so set off for a walk at 11. On the way I met Mr Hulton & went about with him & he eventually brought me home in his sandolo wh was awaiting him at S. Moisè. In the afternoon I had a few people to tea to amuse the middies amongst whom was Prince Alexr of Battenberg who joined out party. He is quite a boy & only learning. I had Prince & Pss Lichnowsky who are passing thro’ Venice came to call & I had also asked a few other people to tea to meet the dear “Drake” party. Prince Alexander of Battenberg, the son of Princess Beatrice & brother of the future Queen of Spain came. He is a young officer—but not clever & will not do much in life. Css Morosini & her girl came to tea and invited the Capt. to bring P. Alexander to tea with her tomorrow—as she went away she told me & invited me also. When they were all gone went out in gondola with Capt. Kerr & took Prince Alex: to the Hotel—went on to the Hospital & Eden’s garden– Miss Mona Kerr (the Capt.’s sister who is lady in waiting to Princess Louis of Battenberg) dined with us. She is a charming cheery girl.
