16 July 1906 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 16th [July 1906]. Being out of typing paper I have gone much into modelling & began today to prepare some clay to make a sketch of a kneeling angel wh I want to put into a niche over the old bedstead I bought at Bologna. After 4 o’cl tea I went to the Hospital, paid Mme Chludzinska a visit who said she was very comfortable & happy. Then went to see the Edens for a short time. After dinner I fetched Carry & we went for a float on the Giudecca to look out whether there was any fêting to be seen this being the “Redentore Poccolo” fête! Saw nothing but it was a lovely night & cool & pleasant. Just as I got home I found a “serenata” coming down from the Rialto & quantities of boats, so thick one could have walked dry footed across the canal.
