2 June 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 2nd June [1907]. Connie & I went to morning service. The weather was still unsettled. Malagola called after lunch & Connie took him in gondola over to the hospital. Nora & I sat at home & quite late—near 7 o’cl we took a run out round by the Zattere & I went in a moment to see Ersilia Canevaro. I found her very fatigued having all the afternoon received her friends who came to pay visits of condolence. I begged her to remain quiet tomorrow wh she promised to do. Maria & she had never been separated & she is quite lost without her– I cannot understand this Italian way of having the house full of callers after a death—just when the mourners are in the greatest grief. We had to hurry back home as it was so near our dinner time.
