5 June 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 5th [June 1907]. Today I had a long wanted rest. I had my breakfast at 7 but remained in bed all the morning reading, writing and sleeping & did not get up till after lunch. At 3 M. & Mme Arthur Waddington & some french friends came with a letter of introduction from Mme King Waddington & I showed them round the pictures. They were nice people & spoke English well. After this I went out in gondola. Called on Ersilia Canevaro who was so surrounded by friends that I stayed but a short time. I went on to call on the Raggs at the Hotel de Milano & found them sitting on a terrace surrounded by friends. I invited them to dine with me tonight & then returned home to tea & at 6.30 Angela Reinelt called for me & took me out in gondola. We did not get quite to the Public gardens as it was rather windy & chilly. The Raggs dined with me at 7.30 & directly after we went to the Sailor’s Institute to help at the weekly concert. There were not many men there. Home soon after 11.
