6 June 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 6th [June 1907]. I worked at preparing for enamelling & got Baker to come & help me with the soddering of the silver cloisonné work. Directly after lunch I went in gondola to the Hospital & saw one patient (Italian) who was just leaving—cured & another (American) who is very ill but with tears in his eyes expressed his thankfulness at being so well taken care of. It more than repays one to hear such things. Returned home for 5 o’cl tea to wh also came Marchesa Cappelli & young Mr Ringler (Danish Vice Consul). He talked with enthusiasm of their new Queen, our Princess Maud. At 6 Angela called for me & took me a turn in gondola. I was not out long having to dress & go out to dine with Lady Radnor at 7.30. I met Mr Williamson, Mr Brown & Mr & Mrs Hulton. In the evening Lady Radnor had her glee choir—several ladies & gentlemen who she has collected & instructed. The performance was very creditable. Mrs Curtis, Mrs Ragg, Mme Wolkoff & I did the part of audience.
