15 June 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 15th June [1907]. Mr Merrick came to settle about the invitations which are to be sent to the English colony for the evening party on Tuesday next to meet the Bp of Gibraltar who is coming to stay with me. There was also a meeting of the Committee of the Sailor’s Institute at 11 o’cl. I went to luncheon with the Curtis to meet Genl & Mrs Hatton. He has just returned from his command at Hong Kong—a stout little man very pleasant & talkative with an American wife. They are staying in Venice for some little time. I returned home by 3 & Sr Guggenheim came to me to inspect the small room he has just had put in order for me & he sat with me some time talking. I had tea at 4.30 & a visit from Mme Kwekwitsch, the sister of the late Pss of Montenegro. Then I went off to the Eden’s garden wh is resplendent with great white lilies. I found there a Mrs Gurney & on leaving took her round to see the hospital. Met also the Ing. Radaelli & had a talk with him on the work still to be done there—& then home to dinner. Went out in gondola for an hour after dinner. It was very hot day. Temp: has gone up 2 degrees since yesterday.
