18 June 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 18th [June 1907]. Clara Montalba came to see my enamel work we were talking in the studio when Giuseppe came up to say that the Princess of Greece was at the door! I ran down & found Princess Sofie who said they had arrived this morning in the R. Yacht “Amphitrite” & are leaving tomorrow early for England to spend a month at Seaford for sea air. Her lady in waiting left her with me & I brought her up to the studio & presented Clara to her & then took her out in gondola to Piazza & then to the yacht. There we waited till her husband & son appeared & I brought them back to lunch here. Afterwards I took them to Clara Montalba’s studio but I don’t think they much appreciated her painting. Her dreamy sketchy style does not take with the usual observer & I confess to think myself that she somewhat exaggerates it. I took the Princess & the Prince back to the yacht from whence they went to visit the Exhibition at the Giardino publici & I called in to see Angela Reinelt for a moment on my way home. At 6 the Bishop of Gibraltar & Mrs Collins arrived to stay with me. Dined at 7.30. The P. & Pss of Greece & the son came to dinner also Canon & Mrs Ragg & Css Olga Mocenigo (née Windischgrätz). I had a party of Eng: & Americans to meet the Bishop & a good many Venetians also came. We were a goodly number & the party was animated & lasted till 11.30. The Greek Princes leave Venice tomorrow.
