20 July 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 20th [July 1907]. I left by 9.55 train for Bologna accompanied by Sra Concetta Malagola. We arrived after 1. On getting to Mezzaratta I found Donna Laura Minghetti looking very well—not much more blind but a little deaf. She is still very handsome & very bright & animated despite she is nearly 80. Prof: Ferucci was with her & we at once sat down to lunch. Afterwards retired to rest till abt 6 when I sat with Da Laura till we dined at 8.15. Count Rinaldo Taverna arrived by train to stay here. The Sindaco Marchese Tanari with his nice English wife also dined & another Italian whose name I did not catch, also Contessa Zucchini & her son– A lively party. The great topic was the judgment of Ex minister Nasi by order of the Senate. Ct Taverna has just returned from London where he had attended a Red Cross Congress & was delighted with all he had seen & done. All left abt ten as Da Laura keeps early hours.
