7 August 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 7th [August 1907]. When I emerged from my room after my daily bath & massage I found the Canon so exhausted & upset by the heat that he said he must return to the Cadore at once, so I sent him to the station after lunch. It was proposed that I should sign the 3 bills Arbib had drawn for the V. Murano Co. & I said I would go & ask the lawyer. This I did—he advised me to do it. It would secure the V.M. Co & it would lighten Arbib’s debts. When I went to Arbibs later he was duly grateful to me. In the evening Mrs Stanier called for me & we went to the Sailor’s Institute concert & she sang several songs wh pleased her audience exceedingly. Mr Arbib joined us there & invited us to go to his garden tomorrow wh we agreed to do.
