8 August 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 8th [August 1907]. Marzollo came & asked me to sign a bill on the V. Murano Co for £1000– I was perplexed but after discussing the pros & cons & decided to do it– Afternoon he came again & I did the deed & as soon as it was done I took a mortal fright that I had done wrong. However there is no help for it—but by the afternoon post comes a letter from C. Wyld advising me not to sign. Here is a kettle of fish! I telegraphed to him that I had signed. It is very nervous work. The money is wanted for Saty! The Genl de Horsey came to tea at 4 & Mrs Stanier by appointment so I took them both to Arbib’s garden where we stayed some time sitting under the pergola where the grapes are ripening fast. I walked home under the escort of Mr Nahum Matilde’s husband. Hot & harrassed.
