30 September 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 30th [September 1907]. There was a concert at Lady Helen Vincents in the afternoon—for a poor boy who is to be taught to sing– It seems to have been got up in haste– Lady H. sent to ask me to take tickets & to give my name as patroness—without any further explanation & she wd take silence for consent. This is a harum scarum way of doing things but I took a twenty lire ticket & let them take my name. I gave my ticket to Mrs Hulton as I could not attempt to get up Lady H’s stairs. I went out for a row in gondola. Landed at Piazza in hopes of being able to walk but finding myself too lame I had to give up the attempt. I had expected Revd Seale to lunch but he telegraphed from Milan that he missed the connection– I expected him later but he never came.
