13 October 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. [13th October 1907]. Went to church with Sir Edwin & Mrs Ragg. The Egertons left for Rome on Tuesday. The strike in the railways seems to be put off & so they wanted to get back before anything worse came. In the evening I received as usual. Very few people came. I had a telegram from the Alderson family saying they would arrive tomorrow afternoon from Milan which they did. Cecil, Kate, Monty, Eda & Mary & their friend Mr Hailstone. They are to stay till next week when they go on to Naples & Rome. I had great pleasure in having them—tho’ for so short a time. I hope to go to Rome next week to stay at the Embassy & so meet them again there. Dr Sacchi, having returned from his holiday, came to visit me last week & after consultation with him abt my rheumatic knee he advises me to spend the winter in Egypt where it is dry instead of going to England. He advises me also not to walk up & down stairs so now I am being carried by Giuseppe & Antonio & Sister Chaffey comes every day for massage. I am better but do not get quite right. I hope, however to find change of air set me up.
