23 October 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 23rd [October 1907]. Miss Arbib went on with my portrait in the morning– After lunch her uncle came to tell me that after all he fears that is to be made a bankrupt which depresses him terribly. I tried to cheer him. He still does not know his fate poor man; it is nearly 4 months since his troubles began– I did not go out at all but had several visits, Mr Hulton, Mme Rubini, Mrs Stanier who kindly promised to go down to the Institute to sing to the sailors tonight– Sister Chaffey came & masséd my knee wh is still stiff & I am still carried up & downstairs by Giuseppe & Antonio.
