31 October 1907 — Rome
Thursday. 31st [October 1907]. Rested all morning & then after lunch drove out with Lady Egerton to see her Nursing Home wh is in course of alteration & enlargement & has a new matron a Miss Everest sister to the Lady help at the Embassy. She seems a nice bright little woman & has been thro’ the Boer war. We drove on afterwards to the Villa Pamphili which is a most lovely place & always a joy to drive in & then home to tea. Mr Whitaker son of my friend Mrs William W. is attaché here. He dined in the evening here & afterwards played the violin, to Lady E’s accompaniment, very prettily. Mr Bliss also dined & we were glad to meet each other. He has had an operation for cataract on one eye since he stayed with me. We enjoyed the music vastly.
