12 November 1907 — Rome | |
Tuesday. 12th [November 1907]. I left the Embassy abt 7.30 & started by 8 o’cl train wh generally goes by to Genoa– On account of the rains the train had to go round by Florence. Between there & Empoli we found the line in a very bad state & the train had to crawl along—after which we got on all right by the coast to Genoa. There was a restaurant on our train to Florence & Baker & I had lunch at 11—but from there we had to depend on our own resources– I had my tea basket & we made tea & then slept. | |
