13 November 1907 — En route to Paris
Wednesday. 13th [November 1907]. We were not disturbed at Modane & slept well. At Dijon a rest: car was put on & we lunched arriving at Paris punctually at 2.30—& drove off to the Hotel du Louvre where I joined Baroness Reinelt. She has been here a month & has had two attacks of gout. I found her still on the sofa—but otherwise well. After resting & having tea I walked off to Mme Michaud the dress maker & ordered me gowns. Then returned to the Hotel—met there Avv. Venezian & his wife—of Trieste. He is her homme d’affaires & her great friend. She & I & Mons. Fritz dined at 7.30 & then we went to the Theatre to the Varietés & saw the usual French piece “L’amour en lionique”—in which one man played the part of an American (King of mimes) who speaks French with an American accent, very well– The woman very mediocre but with very pretty costumes. I went to the theatre again on Thursday & Friday evenings & saw stupid pieces well acted. Sophy Franqueville came to see me looking very bonnie.
