6 January 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 6th [January 1908]. I went to Welbeck St at 9 to take my second bath & I think it did me good. On my return home I had Charlie who found Sr Eugenio Arbib & Sig. Tabet with me as they wanted to see him abt the Venezia Murano. He begged them to follow him to Fortnum’s wh they did but Charlie told me afterwards that they had nothing practical to suggest. Charlie & Nellie lunched with me as also my sister Connie. There was a great discussion as to whether Monty would get the living of Lutterworth & Connie went off to the Treasury to ask him abt it. She came back in the course of an hour to say that she had been told by her friend that Monty was offered the living by Saturday’s post—without any consideration that the living he now holds should be offered by Huntly to the Crown. This is very satisfactory & Connie is naturally very jubilant. It appears that the King put in a word for the son of his college friend & late chaplain. The frost wh has lasted several days broke up today & it rained & was dark. I saw no one after Connie left at 4. Dined alone & went early to bed.
