23 January 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 23rd January [1908]. Another terribly foggy day & no going out. Alice Murray came to see me in the afternoon to see about coming to sleep here tonight in case she gets a headache during the dance she is giving for her daughter Betty– I went to said party & found dancing going on merrily. Had a long talk with John Murray who gave me gossip about books he is publishing & “the Times” crisis &c. How Mr Moberly Bell is turned out of the business & is furious—& that hopes are now entertained that the paper may recover its position. I got home soon after midnight. It was still foggy & freezing. Mrs W. Hanson lunched here today.
