26 January 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 26th January [1908]. I & Nellie went off to the Marlboro’ Hse Chapel R. at 9.30. There was only one gentleman there—the Court being at Windsor– Coming out found the Guard was about to be changed at S. James’ Palace & we met Nellie & baby in her perambulator with her nurse & we stopped to see the ceremony. It used always to be done here—now it is only done when the King is out of town as he has it done at Buckingham Palace when he is there. I read aloud to Nellie till lunch time from Ho: Brown studies of Venetian History. Nellie took the baby out afterwards– Blanche who returned to town last night came to see me at 3.30—went off to church & returned here to tea. Mr Duncan came also—he was very full of conjectures as to the arrangements about the “Times” which is the great topic of the day. When they had all gone I read again to Nellie till dinner time.
