21 February 1908 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Friday. 21st [February 1908]. The Haney’s left Canford at 10 just after breakfast. Miss Green accompanied them in the Canford motor to Upton & was to return after depositing them. I left at 10.30 & went up to town by 11.40 train, getting there & home by 3 p.m. I had not had time to take off my bonnet when Mrs Hulton came in & then Sir Arthur & Lady Fanshawe. Sir Arthur brought me a copy of the Journal of his ancestress Lady Fanshawe. Nellie was up in town & also came in to see me– She had tea here but I left her alone at tea & went to 17 Cav. Square & sat with Blanche who was resting on the sofa having hurt her leg a little. I returned home at 6.30. Charlie W. came & we dined at 7.30 & went to His Majesty’s Theatre to see “The lonely Vagabond” in wh Tree plays the hero. He acts well & is a great favorite with the public who laugh & applaud before he speaks. The piece is not very good & the whole thing rather strained– Miss Millard does her part well & some parts of the play are pathetic & drew my easily drawn tears. On the whole the thing is not satisfactory as a fine performance.
